Our love to the trees

Yesterday was Tumpek Wariga..a celebration in Bali-Indonesia for all the trees&plants. Kind of Valentine’s day..for them instead. Where on this day in our surroundings we try to dont cut trees and give them a day rest. For example, the farmers dont go for farming. If there is harvest need to be done, it is postponed until the next day.

The prayer on this celebration is mainly to say thanks to the Gods & Godesses (represented by Betari Nini, or Goddess Nini) for the life of the trees&plants and all the uses of them for supporting the life of other living beings.

Other than that..during the ceremony there is a very simple message to the trees&plants..by knocking one of them-as representative-three times (soft knocks-just for symbolizing) and asking (like talking with a human being) so that they will thrive well and give more&healthy fruits, leaves, etc that can be useful. As part of the lyric of the song on the video at the bottom of this post:

“Kaki kaki..ye kija i dadong, bin selae dina Galungan. Nged..ngeed..ngeed..”

which means: “Hi grandfather..grandfather..where is grandmother (asking the trees to look for their opposite gender: to get ready for a “marriage” which then resulting fruits, flowers, etc), in twenty five days we will celebrate Galungan (another very big celebration in Bali where we are going to need all of them).. thrive well .. thrive well .. thrive well ..”.

uduh
Simple yet meaningful for us. It is already celebrated since..forever.
We call them grandfather & mother, to respect their availability. For me..by calling them like that we accept them as our older family members (as part of the family of living beings)..that may already existed earlier than humans. Some of them even aged hundreds and thousands years or so. Like this one, near to my mom’s village

and here is the song that I mentioned earlier
